Remembering the value of being consecrated

Addressing the brethren and the consecrated men and women, fr. Dela Cruz said that 鈥渘o matter how good our expressions in the Acta, it is not enough if we don’t take back Jesus into our arms.鈥� He said that the gift of consecration requires the brethren to 鈥済o beyond the Province. Think of the family, which has been the support in all we do.鈥�

Fr. Timoner reflected on Pope Francis鈥檚 Apostolic Letter addressed to the consecrated people during the year of consecrated life and invited men and women to look at the past with gratitude, to live the present with passion, and to embrace the future with hope.

H.E. On Fratelli e Sorelli Tutti

Fr. Timoner said the biggest challenges that the religious can face will be the loss of passion. 鈥淪o how do we recover passion? In his encyclical letter, Fratelli e Sorelli Tutti (On Fraternity, Sorority and Social Friendship), Pope Francis, before the publication of the letter, wrote in his own hand. He was inviting us help him share the message of Fratelli e Sorelli Tutti,鈥� he said. Pope Francis鈥檚 letter was an exhortation of St. Francis to follow the message of Jesus, which is to recognize each other as brothers and sisters, and to live accordingly in the common home that God entrusted to his people. According to fr. Timoner, however, brotherhood and sisterhood alone cannot solve the problems. 鈥淔ratelli Tutti invites us to look at the Good Samaritan in the scriptures, and the characters,鈥� he said. 鈥淭he Good Samaritan tells us that a piety that forgets one鈥檚 neighbor, like that of the priest and the Levite who pass by the victim, is only a form of idolatry鈥攁 worship that is empty. Timoner, Vocation Promotion was not limited to the new vocations itself, rather it was a comprehensive term that embraced both new vocations and the vocation of all the professed. 鈥淥ur capacity to be useful to the Church and the society depends on the promotion of our vocations, that we are able to live the present with passion is actually an important aspect of the promotion of the vocation,鈥� he said. 鈥淚t involves the renewal and rekindling of the vocation of everyone, of all of us religious and Christians, as preachers of the Gospel.鈥� fr. Timoner added.

According to fr. Timoner, to look back at the past with gratitude, which can sustain one’s vocation, one can learn from the five timeless lessons: 1) Zeal for the mission; 2) Collaboration among Religious; 3) Learning from the People, to Evangelize the People (Interculturation); 4) Compassion and Mercy, Justice and Peace; and 5) Preaching in the Community.

In reflecting on how to journey during uncertain times, fr. Sipalay recalled the experiences of the Apostles: 鈥淔rom Pentecost, the Spirit was the guidance of the Apostles. We were like the Apostles before the appearance of Jesus: in locked doors, experiencing fears, anxieties, waiting for the new normal. But with the Risen Christ, with interdependence, and the coming of the Holy Spirit, they found new courage to navigate the new challenges we are facing.鈥�

Further, fr. Sipalay said that this same Spirit that 鈥渨e receive in Baptism and Confirmation, the mission we receive in the Church, in the world, are more than a human mission. It calls us to respond depending on the grace we receive from Lord and the guidance of the Spirit. The challenge is to see everything in the light of the Spirit.鈥�

What to do with the gift

Even in turbulent times such as the pandemic, the Board of Trustees Chairman said that we still receive gifts, but reminded that 鈥渢he gift given is not for the glory of the one who received it, but for the good of the whole Church. The gifts that came from God should only be used for God鈥檚 service.鈥�

In a special way, he acknowledged the efforts of all those who helped craft and implement the way to continue in the new normal. 鈥淲e thank our administrators who took the lead to navigate us to the new normal [so] that we are able to craft the way to move forward. It is here that the many gifts, [though] different from one another, [provided] the synergy for what we have now: the Enriched Virtual Mode.鈥�

The oneness of experience

The Prior Provincial highlighted the fact that all are united in experiencing the struggles brought about by the pandemic, which 鈥渨e face as a community guided by the Holy Spirit.鈥� On this note, he emphasized that 鈥渨e need to give a word of hope to everyone, that this is possible [and] we can do this together,鈥� despite the realities of fear, anxiety, and of 鈥渟elf-defeating comments that are not healthy.鈥�

It is in the context of challenges experienced that fr.
