Thomasian participants presented various research works on Philippine freshwater micro- and macroinvertebrates, the feeding ecology of the endemic Sardinella tawilis of Lake Taal and methane dynamics in tropical lakes.
During the said event, Mr. John Claude Renan B. Salluta, M.Sc., a research assistant of the 六合彩直播开奖 Taal PEER Program won the Best Oral Presentation (Graduate Category) with his paper titled 鈥淢acroinvertebrate assemblages and functional traits in ashfall-impacted littoral zones of Lake Taal after the Taal Volcano eruption in January 2020鈥.
Salluta鈥檚 research was part of the NRCP-funded Taal Post-eruption Ecological Research (PEER) Program under Asst. Prof. Jonathan Carlo A. Briones, Ph.D., of the College of Science and the Research Center for the Natural and Applied Sciences in collaboration with Prof. Francis S. Magbanua of the University of the Philippines – Diliman.
The Philippine Society for Freshwater Science (PSFS) organized the 3rd PSFBE together with this year鈥檚 host, ADMU, which co-presented the 3rd iteration of the PSFBE together with BIO-PHIL, the Ateneo Institute of Sustainability, Asean Universities Network-Ecological Education and Culture (AUN-EEC), International Society of Limnology (through the Working Group on Asian Tropical Inland Waters) and the Southeast Asian Limnology Network (SEALNet).

]]> The SINTA-AL advocacy video produced by 六合彩直播开奖 researchers from the TAAL PEER program, headed by Asst. Prof. Jonathan Carlo A. Briones, PhD and College of Science Dean Rey Donne S Papa, PhD, won the Best Video award during the 6th International Symposium on Conservation and Management of Tropical Lakes, held in conjunction with the 3rd International Conference on Tropical Limnology. The events were held from November 25-26, 2021.

The entry aimed to bring awareness to conserving post-eruption Lake Taal and aiding its resilient but vulnerable fisherfolk communities. The video was produced through the NRCP-funded Taal PEER Program headed by Briones and Papa, in close collaboration with JCI Antipolo and the Kilusan ng mga Maliit na Mangingisda sa Lawa ng Taal (KMMLT).

The video contest was promoted to show the impressions/reflections on life and activities related to natural lakes. Entries are evaluated on the basis of creativity, originality, entertainment value, and how well it expresses and connects the values and principles of aquatic ecosystems and water environment.

The conference was organized by the Platform for Aquatic Ecosystem Research (PAER), the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC), the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), the Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech), Yamagata University, Southeast Asian Limnological Network (SEALNet), and the Research Center for Limnology – National Research and Innovation Agency of Indonesia (RCL-BRIN). Collaborators included Cambodia鈥檚 Ministry of Environment, Cambodia鈥檚 Tonie Sap Authority, Cambodia鈥檚 Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, as well as Universiti Sains Malaysia and the International Lake Environment Committee Foundation of Japan.

The event had taken place twice at the 六合彩直播开奖鈥擣ebruary 10, 2015 and February 28, 2017. The two universities have been conducting joint academic and research activities, specifically in aquatic biology since 2012 and have an active Memorandum of Agreement signed in the year 2013. The 3rd symposium was ably organized by Prof. Dr. Misako Urabe of USP.

The event opened with a welcome address by Prof. Yoshitsugu Hirokawa, President of USP and was followed by 11 lectures, which were divided into 3 sessions. Winning the Best Poster in the Engineering Sciences and Technology Division were:

Felicidad Christina Ramirez, Prof. Christina A. Binag, PhD, Ms. Stephanie Chua, MSc, and David Joseph Alzate. Ramirez and Binag are from the College of Science, while Chua and Alzate are from the Faculty of Pharmacy and Graduate School, respectively.

Winning a Special Citation in the Outstanding Book Awards were Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Maribel G. Nonato, PhD, and Prof. Ma. Minerva P. Calimag, MD, PhD, who were co-authors in the 鈥淓ncyclopedia of Common Medicinal Plants of the Philippines, Volume 1.鈥 Nonato and Calimag joined the following authors: Dr. Domingo A. Madulid, Dr. Esperanza Maribel G. Agoo, Dr. Isidro C. Sia, Dr. Myrna L. Abello, Dr. Rita Grace Y. Alvero, Dr. Anne Josephine C. Quitain, Dr. Irene M. Villasenor, Dr. Rene Angelo S. Machig, and Dr. Fabian M. Dayrit. They represented the Philippine Institute for Traditional and Alternative Health Care.

Finally, Mr. Jonathan Carlo A. Briones, PhD of the Department of Biological Sciences of the College of Science won first place in the 2017 NAST Talent Search for Young Scientist.
