Dean , together with academic officials, namely, Faculty Secretary Asst. Prof. Renz Kenneth G. Cadiang, International Relations Officer , Chair Assoc. Prof. Edilberto Manahan, Ph.D., and Advance Pharmacy Practice Experience Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Nelson Tubon, Ph.D., visited the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutics of the Monash University in Australia on July 29, 2019. 

The ÁùºÏ²ÊÖ±²¥¿ª½± Pharmacy officials were welcomed by the administrative and academic officials of Monash University, namely, Project Pharmacist Director Prof. John Jackson, Centre for Medicine Use and Safety Director Prof. Simon Bell, Prof. Tina Brock, Ph.D., Acting Dean Peter Scammells, Centre for Medicine Use and Safety Director Prof. Carl Kirkpatrick, and Centre for Medicine Prof. Kirsten Galbraith, Ph.D., Chair of Centre for Medicine Use and Safety.

Included in the discussion were matters such as the Pharmacy practice in Australia, research on medication use and safety, Pharmacy curriculum, faculty profile, experiential development and graduate education. There were also discussions on collaborative research and publications, co-supervision for research students, mobility programs, exchange students, and the use of Monash facilities for ÁùºÏ²ÊÖ±²¥¿ª½± faculty members and students involved in research. After the round table discussion, the ÁùºÏ²ÊÖ±²¥¿ª½± delegates were toured around the facilities and laboratories of the Monash Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutics.

At UNISA: Discussions and laboratory visits  

The ÁùºÏ²ÊÖ±²¥¿ª½± group led by Dean Dacanay was at the University of South Australia (UNISA) from July 24 to 27, 2019 for discussions of possibilities of collaborative research and publications, co-supervision for research students, mobility programs, exchange students, global internship for UNISA students in the Philippines for immersion to Pharmacy and Medical Technology practice, and the use of UNISA facilities for ÁùºÏ²ÊÖ±²¥¿ª½± faculty members and students involved in research. After the round table discussion, the ÁùºÏ²ÊÖ±²¥¿ª½± delegates were toured around the facilities and laboratories of the UNISA School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences, such as Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, among others.  

The group also visited the Royal Adelaide Hospital Pharmacy Department, and Medical Laboratory Department. They went on a UNISA Medical Sciences Lab tour with Prof. Brian Dale, Ph.D. The tour of the UNISA School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences Laboratory was facilitated by Department of Pharmacy Chair Prof. Matthew Sykes, Ph.D., while the tour of the State Herbarium of South Australia was made possible with the assistance of Mr. Martin O’Leary, botanist and curator.  The tour of the Adelaide Botanical Garden was facilitated by Dr. Susan Semple.  

As part of the activities during the visit to UNISA, faculty members from the ÁùºÏ²ÊÖ±²¥¿ª½± Faculty of Pharmacy presented their papers at the UNISA-ÁùºÏ²ÊÖ±²¥¿ª½± symposium held on July 27, 2019 at the School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences, UNISA West Campus. This was attended by UNISA faculty members and students in the Graduate School. Dean Aleth Therese L. Dacanay, Ph.D., presented ‘Pharmacy Practice Experience,’ Assoc. Prof. Agnes L. Castillo, Ph.D., discussed ‘Nano-engineered Delivery Systems for Antimicrobials,’ while Asst. Prof. Renz Kenneth Cadiang, presented an ‘Analysis of Medication Utilization among Filipino Elderly.’

The future ambassadors of Global Learning in Pharmacy participated in the Educational and Research Mobility Program of University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Faculty of Pharmacy held from July 15 to 26, 2019. The students under the and programs were accompanied by the Faculty Secretary Asst. Prof. Renz Kenneth G. Cadiang. 

Participants were: Mr. Christian Franz Pua, under the B.S. Pharmacy program, and Ms. Excella Denise S. Basco, Ms. Arielle E. Cruz, Ms. Francia Marie R. Palines, Ms. Camile P. Parreño, Ms. Nielsienne F. Reyeg, Ms. Kristine Loren P. Rojas, Ms. Kae Niecolle R. Sosa, Ms. Sophia D. Ver, from the B.S. Pharmacy major in Clinical Pharmacy program.

The ÁùºÏ²ÊÖ±²¥¿ª½± group was welcomed by the Deputy Dean for Engagements and Income Generation Dr. Adliah Mhd Ali and the Coordinator for International Affairs Dr. Mazlina Mohd Said during the opening ceremonies held on July 15. On the same day, the students also joined the gathering of the participants of the UKM Global Student Mobility Partnership where the delegates were met by the Second Secretary of the Philippine Embassy in Malaysia, Madame Rochelle Orense. 

The Educational and Research Mobility Program served also as an opportunity for Cadiang to meet with UKM Faculty of Pharmacy Deputy Dean for Research and Innovation Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Makmor Bakry. They discussed the establishment of Clinical Pharmacy Simulation Laboratory in the Faculty of Pharmacy. 

Discussed were the possibility of making Dr. Mohd a consultant for the ÁùºÏ²ÊÖ±²¥¿ª½± Faculty of Pharmacy Clinical Pharmacy Simulation Laboratory, strengthening of the Clinical Pharmacy research studies of the BS Pharmacy program major in Clinical Pharmacy, strengthening the attachment training for Clinical Faculty and Preceptors, and forming a partnership for the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) program of the students under the Doctor of Pharmacy program. A fruitful discussion for research collaboration also took place with the Center for Drug Delivery and Research Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haliza Katas and Center of Drug and Herbal Research Center Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Juriyati Jalil.

A total of 121 faculty members were recognized in the areas of Arts and Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, Health and Allied Sciences, Science and Technology, and Sacred Sciences by the Office of the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation during the Recognition Program held on March 16, 2018 at the Paredes Building, ÁùºÏ²ÊÖ±²¥¿ª½±. They were granted the Gold Series Award and the Silver Series Award for AY 2014 to 2016 and the International Publications Award for AY 2014-2017. ÁùºÏ²ÊÖ±²¥¿ª½± Secretary-General Rev. Fr. Jesús M. Miranda, Jr., O.P., and Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation , assisted by the directors of the respective research centers gave the awards.

The Gold and Silver Series awards are granted to faculty members in recognition of their research productivity and leadership in their respective fields of specialization within the period covered by the award. These awards are based on research publications (author by-line should indicate the ÁùºÏ²ÊÖ±²¥¿ª½± as address in the publication), ongoing research involvement, and tenure in the University.

The Gold Series

The awards, given every two years come in two categories: Research Category and Creative Works Category. The Gold Series Award Research Category is granted to tenured full-time faculty member with Ph.D. or M.D., with teaching load, and exclusively teaching in ÁùºÏ²ÊÖ±²¥¿ª½± except for faculty affiliates of the ÁùºÏ²ÊÖ±²¥¿ª½± Graduate School, authored at least five research papers published in refereed journals/ scholarly books in the last five years, with at least two of these published, one of which is an international (Web of Science/ Scopus) publication, or has one patent or utility model granted, within the period covered by the award, or, authored at least two scholarly books in the last five years, with one of these published within the period covered by the award, with ongoing research under the Research Center or Research Unit of the University, and, with at least one research disciple.

Under the Creative Works Category, the awardee should be a tenured full-time faculty member with Ph.D., with teaching load, and exclusively teaching in ÁùºÏ²ÊÖ±²¥¿ª½± except for faculty affiliates of the ÁùºÏ²ÊÖ±²¥¿ª½± Graduate School, authored at least three creative or critical works in the last five years, with at least one of these published within the period covered by the award, and, with ongoing studies (creative projects) under the Research Center or Research Unit of the University.

The Silver Series

Under the Research Category of the Silver Series, the award is given to tenured full-time faculty member with M.Sc. or M.A., with teaching load, and exclusively teaching in ÁùºÏ²ÊÖ±²¥¿ª½±, must have authored at least three research papers published in refereed journals/scholarly books in the last five years, with at least one of these published, or has one patent or utility model granted, within the period covered by the award or, authored at least one scholarly book in the last five years published within the period covered by the award and, with ongoing research under the Research Center or Research Unit of the University. Under the Creative Works Category, the faculty member must be tenured full-time faculty member with M.Sc. or M.A., with teaching load, and exclusively teaching in ÁùºÏ²ÊÖ±²¥¿ª½±, must have authored at least two creative or critical works in the last five years, with at least one of these was published within the period covered by the award, and, with ongoing studies (creative projects) under the Research Center or Research Unit of the University. A Research disciple refers to junior faculty members, graduate students, medical interns, and medical residents.

International Publications Award (2014–2017)

The International Publications Award is presented to all full time faculty members teaching only in ÁùºÏ²ÊÖ±²¥¿ª½± for the publication of their research outputs in journal/s and books indexed in the Web of Science/ Scopus with IF Quartile Metrics Ranking. Author byline should indicate the ÁùºÏ²ÊÖ±²¥¿ª½± as address in the publication.
