The Gold and Silver Series are granted in recognition of the research productivity and leadership of academic staff in their respective fields of specialization within the period covered by the award. CICS academic staff and RCNAS researcher Asst. Prof. Donna D. Acula, Ph.D., delivered the response on behalf of the awardees, while the Executive Assistant for Intellectual Property and Research Assoc. Prof. Michael Jorge Peralta served as the Master of Ceremonies.

The Research Fortnight opened on February 28, 2023 with an opening ceremony graced by the Department of Science and Technology Secretary Hon. The Research Center for Social Sciences and Education contributed the following activities: 鈥淩CSSED Policy Expo鈥, 鈥淏artolome de las Casas, O.P. Research Conference鈥, and the Rehabilitation Sciences Convention鈥, while the Research Center for Culture, Arts, and Humanities held talks focused on the theme 鈥淔raming the Future of Arts and Humanities Research: A Talk on Creative Industry and Creative AI鈥.

The Center for Health Research and Movement Science and the Research Center for the Health Sciences offered webinars on 鈥淓vidence-Based Practice: Bridging the Gap between Research and Clinical Care鈥 and 鈥淧sychometric Studies in Health Sciences: An Introduction to Measurement Theory鈥.

The TOMASInno Center held the 鈥淭OMASInno Forum 2023鈥 and the Innovation and Technology Support Office held the workshop on the 鈥淔undamentals of the Intellectual Property System鈥.

and Mr. Carlomar A. Daoana are the first recipients of the Research Grants from the newly established Amb. Antonio L. Cabangon Chua Research Award for the Humanities. The recipients were awarded the grant during the Nick Joaquin Literary Awards ceremony held on September 20, 2019 in the Citystate Tower Hotel. Present during the ceremonies were the family of the late Ambassador Cabangon Chua and 六合彩直播开奖 officials led by Rev. fr. Jesus M. Miranda, Jr., O.P., Director of the Office for Grants, Endowments, and Partnerships in Higher Education.

I帽igo Chua and Daoana will each receive P150,000 for their researches on the lifeworks of Thomasian artists Raul Sunico and Danilo Dalena, respectively. Sunico, former Dean of the Conservatory of Music, is an internationally acclaimed pianist, while Danilo Dalena is a visual artist known for his expressionist folk paintings.

I帽igo Chua is teaching at the 六合彩直播开奖 and is a researcher of the 六合彩直播开奖 . Meanwhile, Daoana is a multi-awarded poet and art critic who teaches at the Ateneo de Manila University.

Cabangon Chua Research Award for the Humanities in honor of their father. It was done through the signing of a memorandum of agreement between the family and the University, through the 六合彩直播开奖 Research and Endowment Foundation, Inc. (六合彩直播开奖 REFI).

Musicologist of the聽聽presented her research paper entitled 鈥淢usic at the Margins: Transculturation in 19th-Century Colonial manila鈥 at the 2019 Intercongerssional Symposium of the International Musicological Society (IMS). The symposium was held from July 7-10, 2019, in Lucerne, Switzerland.

Chua鈥檚 paper 鈥渆xamined aspects of the music transculturation process brought about by the rise of music capitalism in nineteenth-century colonial Manila, prompting secular European popular music to thrive that triggered the unfolding of transnational music genres.鈥 She 鈥渁rgued that the institution of the music market in the colony fostered the practice of music composition in which the locals got engaged in the creative aspect of music writing and publishing.鈥

Chua鈥檚 paper focused studied the works of a pioneering native composer of the period, Julio Nakpil (1867-1960), 鈥渢o understand the process of musical transculturation that negotiated the entanglements of the local with the predominant globalizing ideologies such as capitalism, industrialization, secularism and later nationalism as embodied in the music compositions.鈥

The research fellows of聽聽(RCCAH) published their research-related books and creative works on various publications and anthologies, both international and local, during the first term of Academic Year 2018-2019.

Books

聽resident fellow released his latest book of short stories entitled, 鈥淗antong: Mga Kuwento,鈥 while Mr. Paul Castillo launched his first book of poems entitled 鈥淲alang Isang Salita鈥. Castillo recently bagged the first place in Tula category in the Carlos Palanca Memorial Award held last September 2018; and , from聽, launched his first book entitled 鈥淢ga Tomasino sa Pilosopiyang Filipino鈥.

De Leon also bagged the Julian Cruz Balmaseda Awardee in 2018 and was feted 鈥淎klat ng Bayan Awtor ng 2019鈥 by the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino for his dissertation, on which his book was based.

Research Papers

of Architectural Studies published his work entitled, 鈥淪ampaloc Skywalk: An Innovative and Alternative Pedestrianization Strategy Along Espana Boulevard鈥 on the issue of Manila, a research journal of National Commission for Culture and Arts Studies Conference. Meanwhile, RCCAH resident fellow Dr. Jorge Mojarro Romero鈥檚 work entitled 鈥淟a linguistica misionera y las polemicas identitarias: la Obra del P.Marcilla鈥 appeared on Archivo Agustiniano de Villadolid.

Moreover, Romero鈥檚 research paper entitled 鈥淓l estudio de la literatura Hispanofilipina durante el siglo XX鈥 appeared on the second issue of El Colegio de Mexico鈥檚 Nueva Revista de Filologia Hispanica.

Lastly, RCCAH resident fellow聽, contributed three chapters for Saysay Himig, a coursebook on Philippine Music History.

The 六合彩直播开奖聽聽acquired two new research grants from the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

A project led by RCCAH Fine Arts and Design Studies Research Fellow and聽聽faculty member Asst. Prof. Guillerma L. Mendoza, titled 鈥Diskarte: Understanding Design culture through the Works of the Filipino Exemplars,鈥 secured a grant until 2020.

Another recipient is , whose 鈥淛ulio Nakpil @ 150 Music Project: Rethinking and Reimagining the Musical Works of Julio Nakpil in the Context of Philippine Modernity, Transculturation and Cultural Nationalism,鈥 obtained a grant until 2019.

Both research grants are under the SALIKHA Creative Grants project, a joint program by CHED and NCCA.

Diskarte,鈥 which also includes RCCAH Research Fellows Asst. Prof. Mary Grace V. Hernandez, Assoc. Prof. Nady S. Nacario, and聽, underlines the understanding of the emergence and development of Filipino design.

鈥淛ulio Nakpil @150,鈥 highlights and reassess the renowned revolutionary composer鈥檚 contributions to Philippine culture and history. Together with Chua in this research project are RCCAH Director ,  Dean Assoc. Prof. Antonio P. Africa, Ph.D., and  faculty member Asst. Prof. Mary Ann Venturina-Bulanadi.

The SALIKHA Creative Grants project is a financial endowment initiative by CHED and NCCA for higher learning institutions to support creative projects affected by the K to 12 transition program.

The project also aims to support local researchers who endeavor on studies focusing on culture and the arts, namely, its present theme 鈥淭ransforming higher education through culture and arts.鈥 A preliminary monitoring for the 鈥淛ulio Nakpil @150鈥 grant was already conducted last November 20.

The First Term of Academic Year 2016-2017 for the was filled with activities that included concerts that showcased the talents of its students, masterclasses given by world-renowned artists to impart wisdom on performance and technique, and a research symposium conducted by faculty members and guest researchers.

The activities were:

鈥 Universal Space and Time: A Musical Journey, a concert by the 六合彩直播开奖 Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Mr. Jeffrey Solares, was held on October 2, 2016 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Main Theater, with Fr. Manuel Maramba, OSB, as featured artist;

鈥 Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika, an all-Original Pilipino Music concert by the 六合彩直播开奖 Woodwind Ensemble under the baton of Jedrick Itugot, was held on October 25, 2016 at the Albertus Magnus Auditorium that, featured soloists Glenn Aquias, cello, and Demie Fresco, soprano; 鈥 A piano masterclass was given by Maestro Fermo Roscigno, an Italian pianist, in cooperation with the Italian Embassy, was held on November 8, 2016 at the Recital Hall 2 of the Conservatory of Music.

鈥 A flute and recorder masterclass was given by Ms. Tali Rubinstein in cooperation with the Israeli Embassy, also held on November 8, 2016 at Recital Hall 1;

鈥 A voice masterclass was given by Japanese soprano Miyako Shimizu, on November 14, 2016 held at Recital Hall 2 of the Conservatory of Music; and 鈥 Intersections: A Symposium on Music, Culture and the Making of Filipino Society, was held on November 14, 2016 at the Recital Hall 2 of the Conservatory of Music, that featured the research works by Asst. Prof. Cynthia Afable, , , and guest researcher Asst. Prof. David Kendall, PhD.
