The Research Center for the Health Sciences (RCHS) inaugurated its Human Performance Laboratory on March 13, 2024 at the 5/F of Fr. Roque Rua帽o, O.P. building.

Borne out of a Department of Science and Technology (DOST) research grant, the said laboratory is built to ramp up research with state-of-the-art modern equipment and field rooms, as well as to assess the condition of the athletes, aid them in recovery after injury, and keep track of their performance.

RCHS Supervisor Prof. Consuelo G. Suarez, MD, PhD, FPARM proudly shared that the laboratory is the first of its kind in the country. Moreover, Suarez envisioned the laboratory to be a niche of research innovations where they can forge ties with researchers from various walks of life to gain a multitude of inputs, and then serve as a venue for seminars and workshops to empower medical and paramedical personnel, athletes, coaches, and educators alike.

Meanwhile, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Rev. fr. Jannel N. Abogado, O.P., DThPatSc emphasized that the 六合彩直播开奖 research centers are guided by the anecdote that “science must be felt by people”, with the aim to give light to others. “We want research projects and our research programs to have an effect in the lives of people and the community […] we do so because this is our job, this is our role, this is our mission,” fr. Abogado said. “We constructed this laboratory because we know that the works and the technologies that will come out to this will be beneficial to people,” he added.

For Faculty of Medicine and Surgery Dean Assoc. Prof. Ma. Lourdes D. Maglinao, MD, the new facility aims to be the niche of groundbreaking research works that are envisioned to change people’s lives. “This center represents a symphony of expertise, a collaboration between the healers who mend and the coaches who push us to soar,” Dean Maglinao said.

The academic units that are primarily involved in running the laboratory are the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Engineering, and the College of Rehabilitation Sciences.

Mr. Christian Rey D. Rimando, MSPT and Mr. Mark Philip P. Hernandez presented an e-poster in the 2021 World Physiotherapy Congress, held from April 9-11, 2021. The poster, entitled 鈥淭he Immediate Effect of M2T Blade in Increasing Hamstring Flexibility of Recreational Basketball Players: A Pre-Post Treatment Design,鈥 addressed the risk of hamstring injuries as a result of decreased flexibility, which can be addressed by myofascial release tools, such as the M2T blade.

The study recruited forty male recreational basketball players with (+) tight hamstrings and separated them into control and experimental groups. The study found that the M2T blade was 鈥渁 useful adjunct in physical therapy intervention in providing short-term improvement in hamstring flexibility鈥 and recommended further studies to establish the long-term effects of the blade.

e-Poster presented by Rimando

Rimando is a faculty member of the Department of Physical Therapy of the College of Rehabilitation Sciences, while Hernandez pursued a Master of Science in Physical Therapy degree from the Graduate School.

On March 27, 2021, the 六合彩直播开奖 College of Rehabilitation Sciences (CRS) – Department of Physical Therapy and their counterparts from the St. Louis College (SLC) – Faculty of Physical Therapy, Bangkok, Thailand conducted a virtual International Physical Therapy Research Presentation, which featured proposals and completed researches by students of both universities.

The researches presented focused on various methodologies and concepts in Physical Therapy that were reviewed and tested on communities, particularly for the present situation. 六合彩直播开奖-led research proposals focused mainly on checking on various methodologies and their scientific soundness despite the situation whereas SLC-led researches explained a thoroughly investigated therapeutic method through a finished research experiment.

The presentations kicked off with a research proposal entitled “A Systematic Review on Online Well-being Interventions for the聽Physical and Mental Well-being of University Health-Allied Students”聽by Mikaela Azul, Mariah Edrianca Dalusong, John Edward Dela Cruz, Ma. Kelley Mangalili, Edric Ngo, Valerie Valerio, and Niels Viacrucis, who were led by Terence Buico. This was followed by another proposal entitled the “Effectiveness of Exergaming in Improving Well-being of Older Adults Living in Institutionalized Centers: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial Study” presented by Raj Bardonido, Janelle Catral, Stacey Evangelista, Arvin Labao, Kristine Ramos, Matthew Sabatin, and Keren Tuale led by Kian Marcelo. After both presentations, an open forum was provided for questions asked by participating CRS and SLC students and faculty.

These were followed by the research presentation by SLC entitled “Sustained Effect of Self-Static Pectoralis Minor Stretching on Muscle Length in Individuals with Pectoralis Minor Tightness,鈥 presented by Chanunchida Thaichaitum, Patthiya Jueboon, Ponchita Makradee. Another open forum was provided for questions and answers from both SLC and CRS participants.

The fourth presentation, entitled “Assessing Readiness towards Telerehabilitation 聽Among Older Adults with聽Hypertension In a Rural Community in Laguna, Philippines: a Cross-sectional Study,鈥 was led by Yalena Bergonio and fellow members Michelle Sy, Carlos Crespo, Hannah Lim, Lorenzo Mallari, Crissy Santos, Fernando Sto. Domingo, and Shermarie Zabarte. These researches would not have been possible without the guidance of the research advisers, Donald Manlapaz, PhD, PTRP, Catherine Escuadra, MHPEd, PTRP,听Archelle Jane C. Callejo-Tiuseco, MPH, PTRP, PT, Christian Rey D. Rimando, MSPT, PTRP, Ken Erbvin R. Sosa, MOH, PTRP, PT, Jordan Barbra P. Nava, MSPT, PTRP and Christopher G. Cruz, MSPT, PTRP of 六合彩直播开奖. Prior to the event, participants were welcomed with an ad from “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” where various landmarks and Philippine cultural displays were shown. As 六合彩直播开奖 hosted this first part of the series, students were given a quick virtual tour of the campus. This provided SLC students with a glance at the facilities and program offers of the university, as well as provided Thomasian students and advisers a quick trip down memory lane as they have yet to visit again the halls and walls of the campus.

The second part of the series, to be hosted by St. Louis College – Thailand, will be held before the end of April.
